Should I get a Dog during the COVID-19 Pandemic?

With the current COVID-19 pandemic, many people are working from home or are simply off from work temporarily and find themselves wishing for a companion around the house. Naturally, people start searching for a pet.

In most if not all circumstances, having a pet is a great idea! There are numerous studies showing the physical and mental health benefits to having 4-legged family member. The timing of adding to your family is very important, especially during a pandemic.

There are somethings to consider however. The most important advice would be to evaluate your situation with looking into the future. For example, if you are working from home now because of the pandemic, what happens when you go back to the office? This will be a quick and significant change for your dog and will her or she tolerate this? This can lead to many issues, separation anxiety would likely be the most significant. With that being said, when investigating breeds that you like, may sure you are choosing a dog for the future you, not in the present. A high energy dog may be great while you are home and can take her out multiple times a day, but what happens when you are back in the office for 8 hours a day?

We hope this helps with your decision making process if you are thinking of adding to your family during the COVID-19 pandemic.
