Benefits of Performing Surgery at Kingsdale

All pets receive Intravenous Fluids!

This is extremely important to the overall safety of your pet throughout anesthesia and the surgical procedure. This helps maintain blood pressure, enhances anesthetic metabolism and improves anesthetic recovery.

We keep our Patients warm!

Anesthesia will result in hypothermia which has a negative impact on healing and anesthetic recovery. By using warmth during and after the procedure, we are able to observe a comfortable, uneventful recovery from anesthesia.

All pets are monitored by a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)

They have special training in delivering, monitoring and recovering anesthetic patients. This is very important to the overall safety of your pet

All procedures are performed in a sterile manner and environment

Therefore, most procedures do not require antibiotics, keeping the costs reduced for clients and not un-necessarily administering antibiotics when it is not needed

We have helpful and caring doctors and staff!

We all want your pet to be comfortable and have a great post-operative period. We encourage all clients to call us with any concerns that you may have regarding your pets after-care

Your Surgical Options

Laser surgery

This is a very popular surgical method in which the laser substitutes the traditional scalpel. This results in faster healing, less bleeding and less pain! Dog neuters will automatically be performed with the laser at no additional cost.

Blood work

For the safety of all pets over the age of 6 years, we require blood work on those surgical patients. For patients less than 6 years of age, clients have the option of performing blood work prior, and on the same day of the procedure. Our in-house lab allows us to quickly receive the results.

Microchipping

Usually performed at the time of spay/neuter, this is a small implant that is placed underneath the skin, between the shoulder blades. Should your pet become lost…and found, veterinarians and humane societies can scan and help identify your pet.

Pre-Surgical Instructions

For all surgical procedures, we recommend to withhold food starting at 9pm the night prior to surgery. Water is ok to be consumed. We do recommend that you drop your pet off between 8-8:30 the morning of the procedure where then a veterinary technician will review the procedure and discuss your options for your pet’s surgery. All surgical procedures are performed in the morning so that they can recover comfortably and be monitored throughout the afternoon. You can call us anytime to obtain an update on your pet. You may pick-up your pet anytime after 3-4 PM and we do recommend having a set time so that you can be properly discharged by a veterinary technician or the doctor who performed the procedure. We recommend that you set that appointment up at time of admittance in the morning.

Making sure you are aware of what is required of you after your pet's surgery is important. During the pick-up appointment, your technician or doctor will review recommendations for you in regards to the post-operative period. You need to observe and monitor the incision(s) closely for any signs of redness or discharge. Most pets do not require an e-collar but if you find that your pet is licking his/her incision(s), one would be required to prevent infection and breakdown of the incision. We also recommend reducing your pet’s activity based on the doctor’s instructions and for how long depends on the procedure performed.
